Tasting Notes
A gorgeous St Emilion. It starts with cassis, black cherry and plum, evolving into a mélange of fine oak and earth. Very dark in color, it is flavorful, elegant and velvety with a long, fine finish.

Generally the color of the wines of Libournais is deep ruby with purple reflections. The red and black fruits are very present with notes of wood and vanilla due to long aging in barrels. Roundness and power, these red wines have a seductive and full-bodied bouquet.

When to Drink: 2020 – 2027

  • 91-92 James Suckling

Very rich aromas of dark berries, earth and milk chocolate. This is rich and round with a lovely, soft texture and juicy, flavorful fruit. Drink after 2022. -2/4/2019

A deep and fruity wine with blackberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium body and a bright finish. 4/5/2017

  • 90 Vinous Antonio Galloni

The 2016 Bel-Air Jean & Gabriel is deep, rich and super-expressive. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol and licorice all flesh out in this deep, succulent wine. The blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc works especially well here. Bel Jean & Gabriel is a Lussac Saint- Émilion endowed with real substance and character.

The 2016 Bel-Air Cuvée Jean & Gabriel, a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is sweet, ripe and unctuous, with generous fruit and an open-knit, inviting personality that is sure to make it a crowd-pleaser. There is real substance here, not to mention tons of potential. Simon Blanchard and Arnaud Gimonnet consult.

  • 92 Wine Enthusiast (Roger Voss)

This is structured and firmly rich, thanks to its generous Merlot. The spice and the tannins are right up there with the fruit. Ripe and full bodied, it is a wine to enjoy over the medium-term. 4/1/2017

  • 89-91 Vinifera (Jacques Perrin)

Il offre une belle continuité de bouche, avec une trame élégante et une finale soutenue. Très joli vin !

  • 90 Wine Advocate (Neal Martin)

The 2016 Bel-Air “Jean & Gabriel” is an approximately 50/50 blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It has quite an opulent bouquet with blueberry and black cherry fruit, touches of incense and iris developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly tarry black fruit, a keen line of acidity, quite fresh in the mouth with a spicy, tobacco and bell pepper-tinged finish. This is probably the best Jean & Gabriel produced so far.

  • 17/20 Gault & Millau

Fruits noirs, épices, un peu fumé aussi. Bouche juteuse, fruitée, de beaux tanins avec une certaine fermeté en finale. Johan Castaing

  • 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson

Very old Cabernet Franc and Merlot vines.Fresh and sweet and gentle with amazing concentration for the appellation. Dry finish but real energy and dynamism. Hint of liquorice. This seems to be an exciting year for the St-Émilion satellites.16.5+
