Vibrant fruit here with plum, berry and blackberry character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely subtle fruit and structure here. New wine from de Boüard family.

Checking in as a blend of 85% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, made by the Coralie de Bouard (of Château Angélus), the 2016 Château Clos de Boüard has a beautiful elegance and purity as well as impressive notes of black cherries, cassis, subtle oak, and dried flowers. It’s very floral, with fine tannins and a silky, elegant finish. (3/1/2019)

“Purplish purple. What a beautiful intensity and olfactory complexity. The nose is revealed through black fruits and spices. Pleasant aromas of currants and blackcurrants, with a touch of liquorice. The appetizer is delicious, creamy and seductive. On the palate I note a pleasant sweetness in correlation with the structure of the wine. The tannins are powerful and reveal themselves slowly. They ensure the rear perfectly and offer a very good prospect of guard. Well done. 2022-2037 92/100” (3/20/2019)

The 2016 Clos de Boüard is a rich, powerful wine. Dark red cherry, raspberry, mocha, licorice and rose petal all flesh out in this succulent, potent Montagne Saint-Émilion. This is an impressive debut. Even so, it will be interesting to see if this wine can be nuanced in future vintages. Tasted two times. (1/21/2019)

The 2017 Clos de Bouärd is medium to deep garnet-purple with a very pretty nose of crushed red currants, black cherries and rose hips with suggestions of fenugreek, cinnamon toast and baker’s chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with a chewy frame and plenty of expressive red and black berry flavors, finishing spicy. (3/29/2019)
