“Warm black plums, crushed blackberries and cassis scents with hints of wild thyme & smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black fruits and savory layers with a firm frame of grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long.”(LPB)
The 2016 Reaut has quite an extravagant bouquet, this Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux racing out of the block with quite sumptuous black plum and cassis fruit, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. You might describe this as a “full-on” 2016 with a precocious finish, but at least there is sufficient freshness here. It will probably need a couple of years after bottling for time to abrade those tannins down. (April, 2017)
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Reaut gives up warm black plums, crushed blackberries and cassis scents with hints of pencil lead, wild thyme, tar and smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black fruits and savory layers with a firm frame of grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long. LPB (Dec, 2018)
I love the ripe blackcurrants, blueberries and delicate herbs in this wine. They enable it to carry the generous dry tannins very well and they drive the long finish. A blend of 58 per cent merlot, 37 per cent cabernet sauvignon and five per cent cabernet franc. Needs some time to resolve all the structure, so better from 2020.
This is a structured wine that has both firm tannins and ripe black plum fruits. It is concentrated and serious, the wood aging and the fruit tannins giving a lift and richness to the spicy fruit. The estate, dating to the 17th century, has 96 acres. Drink from 2021.
